Excellent Night for Watford Swimming Club at Herts ASA Presentation evening

Lets start with the headlines Watford 2nd club overall at County Champs , well done to all our swimmers for this great result. Girls were 3rd overall in the age groups ( 15 and under ) and boys were second and then the senior girls came 2nd.

On the night awards are presented to swimmers who come in the top 8 in their age group , this is based on the points you score in your best 50, 100, 200 and distance event. To qualify you must swim something from each category.

So Counties 2017 is now over, but what a finish to the championships for our young swimmers.
Kicking off the weekend with the 400 freestyle and individual events, we had 28 Watford swimmers tackling these longer races on Saturday. The girls started the racing well with 6 PBs between them and Erin O’Meara bringing home a silver medal, as well as claiming a regional qualifying time. In the boys 400 IM, we saw another 6 PBs with Lewis Shayler, Alex Williams and Devesh Kapoor claiming medals (gold, silver and bronze respectively), with those three along with Ketan Rach qualifying for regionals.

Watford's swimmers continued their successful run at this year's County Championships with another staggering weekend's worth of swimming.
Starting off the weekend with the 50m breaststroke and 200m freestyle events, we were well represented with 29 swimmers in the breaststroke and 36 in the freestyle. After some impressive performances in the heats, Enzo Lim, Charlie Taverner, Alex Williams, Ben Green, Ketan Rach, Lewis Shayler, Gemma Nottage, Megan Worley, Harriet Clements, Ellie Williams, Erin O'Meara, Fleur Hines, Emily Sellen and Leanne Carey made the breaststroke finals, bringing home 5 medals between them - gold for Erin and Alex W, and silver for Enzo, Ben and Ellie. There were also 24 PBs swum in the freestyle, with Enzo and Erin achieving regional times, and 4 swimmers claiming medals (Erin and Enzo - silver, Gemma and Ketan - bronze).

Counties 2017  – Weekend 1

Counties 2017 started with a bang for Watford’s swimmers this year. 50 swimmers made the journey to Borehamwood this weekend to compete in over 150 heat swims across the 100m events and 200 IM.

First events of the weekend were 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke, with 40 swimmers qualifying for these events in total.

How to gain the best start for your first 15 metres!!
So.....we are going up!!!!!!
Hi all
Well that was a good night for the club. Where should I start?
I think we should start with the coach journey. After a lovely 2.5hrs on a coach driving past all the top tourist sites in London, we finally arrived at the pool. The only person who was happy with this journey time was our membership secretary Paul. He was smug that his prediction of the supposed 1 hour journey took twice as long and more!
So. The gala.
This was the final round and we went in seeded joint 1st place with Barking and Dagenham. We had one simple aim for the night, to finish top 2. That would guarantee our return to the Premier division.
As I'd expected/hoped Watford was the loudest and most war-painted team there! This really helped our team spirit. Throughout the gala we were either 1st or 2nd overall, with all of our swimmers stepping up and swimming their heart out. A special mention goes to Alex O and James I. Alex had big (non broken ankle) shoes to fill with the injury to Charlie. In both relays he swam big pb's and bought home his team with a smile on his face. James had a very tough ask in his backstroke races, the swimmer next to him was twice his size (I'm not joking here-he was twice as big as him,but he did not get put of by the giant and swam his own race brilliantly and again came out with a big smile.
The final results were as follows:
1st Barking and Dagenham
2nd Watford.
3rd Leander

So we are going up!
My swimmer's of the gala were Erin and Devesh. Both these swimmer's had a heavy work load that night and they both swam fast and brought us lots of points. Well done.
Being back in the Premier league next year does mean we will come up against some bigger and stronger teams, but with the massive progress the club has made this year, and indeed plan to make again next year, we will hold our own next season.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot.... Girls v Boys result:
Girls 141
Boys 134
So the girls win the star prize (to be announced next Wednesday, 21st Dec)
A big thank you to all the club official's and team manager's who helped with this years league and a MASSIVE WELL DONE TO THE SWIMMERS.
A happy coach
