Please can you convey my thanks to everybody for the lovely retirement gifts and card. I have not copied in others as I am sure to miss some so it you can pass it on it would be great.
I have wanted to sail for as long as I remember, it is certainly on my bucket list and I am sure it will re ignite a dream to reality. I will look forward to it.
I made a space for the aptly named rose bush and planted with care, banana skins should do it. It is now flowering for the 2nd time this year. I’m sure it will be blooming lovely for years to come.
Wine and chocs will also be enjoyed.
Thanks very much

Sunday 11th June was a Great day for Watford Swimming Club

The Jubilee River Swim is a beautiful 10k swim which is split into 4 sections by 3 weirs.
This year we entered 2 relay teams. In second place out of all the relay teams came:
“Blue Marlins”, namely Pedro Irvine, Harrison Lees, James Irvine, and Shannon Nichols.
Closely followed in fourth place by “Red Snappers” who were Harrison Bullock (Berko swim club), Victoria Pope, Callum Bullock (Berko swim club) and James Pope.
They were by far the youngest of the 58 relay teams but what’s more impressive is they swam skins (without wetsuits) in the 16C water.
With parents following on the tow path, our tough guys jostled for position in the elite wave. They went under bridges, through dark tunnels, dodging sticks, weeds and slower swimmers.
At the end of each section the timing chip was passed over and the swimmer sprinted to the next entry point. With the sun on their backs our teams weaved through swimmers in the earlier waves to a fantastic finish.

6 swimmers from our master’s squad competed with 320 solo swimmers. The results were: Paul Cuthbert (18th solo M), Ben Cope (24th solo M), Ian Gregory (16th solo M), Alice Jennison (16th solo F), Sasha Wisdish (4th solo F) and me Jeremy Irvine (16th solo M skins).
Entries have already opened for next year and are filling fast.

So have you got what it takes? Will you be 14 years or over by June 2018?
If so then drop me a line quickly at

East Region Championships – Weekend 2

19 of our top junior swimmers travelled to Norwich this weekend, competing in 29 events between them, claiming 7 medals and setting countless PBs.

Maggie was our first swimmer up on Saturday morning, taking on her favoured event, the 200m Butterfly. Swimming the event in a 50m pool for the first time, she finished a very respectable 15th place in her age group. Next up were the boys in the 200m Breaststroke; Alex W, Enzo, Ketan and Lewis were taking part and after some tough swims, Alex and Lewis qualified for their age group finals in 4th and 7th places, with Enzo and Ketan finishing in 12th and 15th places in their age groups. The 100m Breaststroke for the girls saw Harriet, Ellie, Erin and Alex L step up for their first race of the championships. With some new long course PBs under their belts, Erin and Ellie qualified for the 14y/o final in 6th and 7th place, and Alex finishing in 31st place in the same age group. Harriet, just off her best time, finished in 13th place in the 13y/o age group. In the boys 50m Butterfly, Alex W and Enzo qualified for the 11/12 y/o final, with Dan just missing out in a new long course PB, Ben and Ketan finished in 19th and 28th in the 13y/o age group, and in the 14y/o age group Devesh qualified for the final in 8th place, with Lewis just off his best, finishing in 35th.

This 1st May bank holiday weekend saw the Senior section of this year's Regional Championships at Luton. Watford had 9 individual swimmers qualify, plus 2 relay teams.

Day 1

Saturday started with the girls 200m fly in which Ceri Heard swam a long course PB. Up next were Harrison and Ashley in the 100m fly. Ashley swam a PB and Harrison qualified for the final, where he came 5th in a new PB.

Fiona was up next in the 50m Free and swam a very strong race breaking 30 seconds long course for the 1st time. Leanne swam a very solid 28 sec for her 50m Freestyle. These races were followed by both Harrison and Marcus in the 50m Backstroke, Marcus edged out Harrison in the battle of the Watford boy's with both boys swimming a fantastic 30.4/5sec race. Then it was time for the girls 200m Breaststroke where Emily and Lucy both competed well. Marcus carried on the breaststroke theme and swam a very strong 100m  time. For me this was one of the races of the weekend with Marcus executing some great races tactics.

After a little break we had Harrison back in the pool competing in the 400m I.M. Again he swam well setting a new long course PB. Emily finished off her day with the 50m Breast with another good time. Tying up Day 1 we had the 14-16yrs boys medley relay team. The team of Harrison (bk) , Marcus (br) , Dev (fly) and Ethan (fr) swam a good strong race which placed them in the Top 10 in the East Region. All the boys swam well and showed great team spirt.

Day 2

Harrison carried on from where he left off the night before with butterfly, but this time over the longer distance -200m. He swam a good race which put him into the evenings final. Lucy and Emily both competed in the 100 Breaststroke where they both swam good races with excellent turn skills. Marcus again swam a long course PB in the 50m Breast with a very strong finish. Leanne swam bang on her PB in the 100m Free, a good sign for the up and coming relay. Harrison had two more races left today; 50m Free, which he swam just off his PB and the 400m Free, again just off his PB. Emily swam her longest race of the meet in the 400m IM where she did not disappoint and produced a strong race throughout.
The older girls secured a top 4 place in the 4x100m medley team. Sophie led off with the backstroke leg and swam a long course PB. Handing over to Emily on the Breaststroke leg she swam  her fastest time of the weekend. Ceri swam a strong fly leg and set it up for Leanne on the Freestyle in which she swam a big long course PB. Harrison swam a solid 200m fly final and came in a very respectable 7th place.

Day 3

The energy levels of the swimmers had a boost with the arrival of Louis after his exploits in Sheffield the previous few days! Louis did not waste anytime and picked up 3 golds in the 200mi IM, 100m Backstroke and the 200m Free. Both Harrison and Sophie swam in the 200m IM races and picked up  top 8 places. Harrison and Marcus went on and swam long course PB's in the 100m Back. Leanne swam a very well paced 200m Free and picked up another long course PB.

The last races of the session saw Ceri, Ashley and Harrison compete in the 50m fly. Ceri swam on her PB, Ashley set a long course PB and Harrison just missed his.

The older swimmers set a good standard in these Regionals, so the pressure is on the younger ones later in the month!
